Leaving Salta, On our way, we pass the traditional town of Quijano and then, we reach the impressive Toro Gorge, we stop to see the El Toro viaduct, located south of the ravine and built between 1921 and 1948, 224 meters long and 25 meters high, in which we will take great trekking. During this trip, we will appreciate the amazing engineering of the train to the clouds. (The "Tren a las Nubes" (Railway to the Clouds) The line from Salta to the Chilean frontier at Socompa, which covers a distance of 570 km, is one of the great feats of South American railway construction and one of the most famous landmarks of Argentina. This remarkable construction was the most outstanding achievement of Richard Maury, an engineer from Pennsylvania who arrived in Argentina and is now commemorated by the station at km. 66 which bears his name. This fascinating railway includes 21 tunnels, with a total length of 3.2 km., 31 bridges, 13 viaducts, and 1279 bends. The viaduct at La Polvorilla is one of the most spectacular engineering feats of the line, crossing a valley 224 m. wide at a height of 63 m.) We stop and take a stroll in the pre-Incan city of Tastil (SANTA ROSA DE TASTIL RUINS).

Located at a distance of 100 kilometers from Salta, by the Quebrada del Toro Gorge and 200 meters away from the town of the same name. It is a dependency of the Museo Antropológico de Salta Anthropological Museum as is its small site museum. The University de la Plata did a study of them in 1967. Some reconstructed sectors were found, also marked roads, market squares, dwellings, and burial sites. In the surrounding mountains can be seen the outlines of ancient farm plots and areas covered with rock carvings. The studies carried out there did not unravel the mystery as to why this pre-Hispanic city was abandoned by its citizens, leaving behind all kinds of objects.) Then, we continue our trip to San Antonio de Los Cobres, which is a small mining town, to have lunch.
